The history of the Agaises Vineyard

The Ruffus family vineyard is located in Haulchin, near Binche.

It is located in the area known as "Les Agaises". The plots are situated on a south-facing hillside with soil very rich in limestone. In the 12th century, Lord Ruffus ruled over this region.

In 2002, the Agaises vineyard was created thanks to the various contributions of five people:

  • Raymond Leroy: wine merchant
  • Etienne Delbeke: farmer
  • Thierry Gobillard: a winemaker from Champagne
  • Michel Wanty: Entrepreneur
  • Joël Hugé: entrepreneur

Having grown continuously, the vineyard now includes 30 hectares of vines planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The estate is therefore the largest wine producer in Belgium.

They only produce sparkling wines made according to the traditional Champagne method, that is to say with a second fermentation in the bottle, and a minimum of 12 months of aging on lees.

Winemaking process for this Ruffus Chardonnay Brut Blanc de blancs cuvée

  • Made using the traditional Champagne method of secondary fermentation in the bottle
  • The wine then remains on lees for between 12 and 15 months.

Awards for this Belgian sparkling wine

  • Honored with the title of Knight of Walloon Merit in 2015
  • World Wine Competition (in Bordeaux) 2008: Gold
  • Effervescents du Monde (Dijon, France) 2013: Gold
  • Chardonnay du Monde (St-Lager, France) 2016: Gold
